On Tuesday we traveled by train to Talkeetna and then by bus to Denali. Talkeetna is a small town with a cat for Mayor - Stubby. Not too much to see there but it is the place you must register if you plan to climb Mt McKinley. Turns out it is too late in the season for me to climb this year - Oh well. We stayed overnight at the McKinley Chalet Tuesday into Wed. On Wednesday we toured the Denali National forest coming within about 90 miles of McKinley. BTW Mt McKinley is AKA Denali - The great one. The forest was nice we saw some moose way up on the hill... Lots of Mosquitos too. We next took the bus back to Talkeetna where we stayed overnight at the Talkeetna Lodge. It was beautiful there and unseasonably warm. We did not get the see the mountain at all - It was always cloud covered. Turns out this is the rainy season and the mountains are more visible in the winter... We headed back to Anchorage on Thursday morning and visited the start of the Iditarod. After lunch in Anchorage we went to a wild animal rescue area south of Anchorage then headed to the Hotel Alyeska where I am now writing this. All the various pictures are on flickr here
Time for bed now - Tomorrow we head to the ship - Radiance of the seas.
